Thermal-bridge-free facades and rising margins in the insulation industry – weekly review
This week we're looking at two signs that the facade and thermal modernization sector is picking up pace – both on the technology front and in financial results. A Polish manufacturer is touting a mounting system designed to virtually eliminate thermal bridges, while a Hungarian insulation giant is posting its best results in years.
01 · Innovations
Ventilated facade without thermal bridges – Polish technology under the spotlight
Thermal bridges at the fixing points of ventilated facades have long been a challenge for designers of energy-efficient buildings – traditional brackets and mechanical fasteners, no matter how well chosen, always create a kind of "breach" in the insulation layer. Polish manufacturer Wido-Profil decided to tackle the problem at its source and developed the anchor-free Wido-Inv mounting system, based on passive Wido-Thermo-Grip brackets [1].
The company has just published the results of laboratory and operational testing of the new solution. The tests covered two key parameters: the heat transfer coefficient and mechanical load-bearing capacity, verified while maintaining the required structural strength. The conclusions are promising – according to the manufacturer, the system limits the thermal bridge effect to values that can be disregarded in a building's thermal calculations [1]. For designers and installers of ventilated facades, this is a concrete, measurable change rather than just a marketing claim – and a topic that's sure to resurface repeatedly in discussions about low-energy building standards.
02 · Financial Results
Masterplast bounces back financially – insulation is in demand again
If innovations in facade fastening are a sign that the industry is investing in technical development, then the financial results of Hungary's Masterplast show that real demand lies behind it too. The manufacturer of construction insulation and facade thermal insulation systems reported revenue of EUR 100.5 million and EBITDA of EUR 11.1 million for the first half of 2026 [2].
The most telling figure, however, is the EBITDA margin – a full 11%, compared to just 1.28% a year earlier [2]. It's a jump that's hard to explain away as a one-off – the company's management stresses that the growth is driven primarily by the core business, namely sales of insulation and thermal insulation systems, supported among other things by the company's own discount program for facade thermal insulation [2]. Masterplast has also announced further investment, expanding glass wool production at its plant in Szerencs, Hungary [2]. This is good news for the entire Central European market – one of the leaders in the insulation segment is returning to healthy margins after some tougher years, which could signal an investment revival among facade suppliers and contractors in the region as well.
Summary
Summary
This week shows the facade industry from two sides – from the precision engineering of fasteners that reduce heat loss, to hard numbers confirming that the insulation market is rebuilding its profitability. Both threads, technology and business, will come together live at Facade Expo 2026 – International Trade Fair for Facades and Building Thermal Modernization, where visitors will be able to see new mounting systems and talk to manufacturers about the market's direction. We look forward to seeing you there!
